The purpose of the thief hatch is to work in tandem with
the vent valve to minimize the escape of light ends of crude
in lease storage by maintaining a pressure on the tank. A
vacuum relief function is also standard to prevent a suction
or draw down from collapsing the tank. The thief hatch
permits access to the contents of the tank for sampling and
gauging. The vent valve should be set to vent pressure
before the thief hatch.
Jayco thief hatches are designed for optimum performance
and easy cleaning and maintenance, and are available in 8"
round or 20" long pan designs, with standard settings of 4
ounces pressure and 0.4 ounce vacuum, with optional springs
for 2, 8, or 16 ounce pressure settings. Base gasket
standard with hatch.
